In 2003, Bonnie Hurd Smith initiated a multi-year project to transcribe, index, and publish Judith Sargent Murray's letter books—twenty volumes in all. As of June 2009, she has published two letter books in their entirety and two theme-based collections of the letters. Her transcriptions of letters from all of the letter books appear in her biographical introductions of Judith Sargent Murray. Bonnie's transcriptions have also appeared in works by David McCullough, Cokie Roberts, Susan Branson, Carol Berkin, and Joseph Garland, and they have been used by Historic New England to help interpret two of their properties, the Governor John Langdon House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and the Sayward-Wheeler House in York, Maine.
